The 10 most popular vampires in video games
What do you think of when it comes to vampires? Long and sharp fangs, terrible power, or immortal life? This evil image originated from ancient Eastern European legend has always been a popular theme across all kinds of media. In recent years, with the popularity of video games, many classic characters have also emerged in the new virtual world. Here are our top ten most popular vampires.
10. Demitri Maximoff (DarkStalkers: The Night Warriors)
Darkstalkers was one of the most popular arcade games in the 1990s, in which Dimitri Maximoff is players’ favorite character. He is an orthodox vampire, tall, powerful and even resistant to the sunshine.
9. Remilia Scarlet (the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil)
Remilia Scarlet is the owner and head of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Though her appearance and behavior are childlike, and seems nonthreatening, she has fearsome magical powers and a reputation to match, being known throughout Gensokyo as the dangerous “Scarlet Devil.” Like all vampires, photosensitive and weakened when exposed to sunlight, so she typically remains inside her mansion during the day and emerges during the night. While she is naturally known to drink human blood, her light appetite means her victims almost never die from their wounds.
8. Kain (Legacy of Kain)
He is the vampire king in the game, killed by humans for domination of the continent. After the resurrection, he embarked on a long journey of revenge. There is an allusion behind the protagonist’s name. Kain is the son of Adam and Eve in the Bible, killed his brother Abel out of jealousy. Later, he was punished by God and became a vampire. It is said that Kain is the ancestor of Western vampires.
7. Rayne (Bloodrayne)
Rayne is the daughter of the vampire Kagan and an unnamed human woman, making her a dhampir. She looks sexy, fashionable and has gorgeous skills. Despite her initial cold attitude to the world and humanity, she is not absolutely cruel and ruthless to everyone. Rayne values her partners and helps the weak to some extent.
6. Vladimir, the Crimson Reaper (League of Legends)
Vladimir is a fiend with a thirst for mortal blood. In addition to unnaturally extending his life, his mastery of hemomancy allows him to control the minds and bodies of others as easily as his own. In the flamboyant salons of the Noxian aristocracy, he builds a tide of fanatical cult of personality around himself, while in the lowest back alleys, he bleeds his enemies dry.
5. Jonathan Reid (Vampyr)
Jonathan E. Reid is the protagonist of Vampyr. The once high-ranking military surgeon and renowned blood specialist returns home to London after his First World War duty in France. London meanwhile is fighting a different war against the Spanish Flu epidemic, which holds the city in a deadly grip. On his travel home to his sister Mary and his mother, Jonathan is attacked and turned into a vampire. Soon he finds himself caught in the dilemma of his new existence and his occupation as a physician.
4. Rachel Alucard (BlazBlue series)
Rachel Alucard is the head of the Alucard vampire family, a stereotypical aristocratic heiress. She has an almost enchanting air of dignity and grace, yet is sarcastic and condescending to those she considers lower than her, always expecting them to have the highest standards of formality when conversing with her. Despite this, she does care deeply for her allies.
3.Dettlaff Van Der Eretein(The Witcher 3: Blood And Wine)
Dettlaff Van Der Eretein is the central antagonist of the Blood and Wine expansion of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Although according to the settings of the game, higher vampires can run rampant in the world of Witcher, killing humans as simple as pinching ants, Dillard did not slay for fun. He dissuaded even companions harassing humans. Unfortunately, he fell in love with a human he shouldn’t have. Used by his lover Syanna, he became the serial killer known as the Beast of Beauclair, killing Syanna’s old enemies to seemingly ensure her freedom. In the face of such a spoony monster, the human return is deception. Well, in the end, all the inter-racial friendliness in the world disappeared, leaving only bloodthirsty and brutal monsters.
2. Vincent Valentine (Final Fantasy VII)
Vincent is rather a result of an experiment than a natural-born vampire. In the backstory to Final Fantasy VII, Vincent was assigned to guard the scientist Lucrecia Crescent, with whom he fell in love. After witnessing that his former lover, whom he still loved, was used as a test subject to a human experiment, Vincent was plotted against by Hojo and transformed into an immortal creature. He lost his reason and became a pure killing machine. Although cold in appearance, Vincent is actually an extremely gentle and emotional man. It is what happened to him decades ago that makes him reticent. He always thinks that it was his fault that made Lucrecia the experimental subject of Genova, and this monstrous body was God’s punishment. The meaning of his survival is to find Hojo, give justice to Lucrecia and her son, and make atonement for himself.
- Alucard (Castlevania: Symphony of the Night)
I’m sure that guys who know this character are a bit senior~ As a dhampir, Alucard is the protagonist of Symphony of the Night. His father was the king of vampires, while his mother was an ordinary human, who was later executed because of human rejection. At her death, Alucard was by his mother’s side. She insisted that he not take his anger at her death out on the humans, as their lives are already full of hardship. With those words, she had a profound influence on Alucard’s thinking. Understanding that father was going to impose his wrath on the people, Alucard turned his efforts toward destroying his father’s vampire army. The handsome face, elegant temperament, almost Shakespeare’s tragic identity and background make the character extremely charming. Particularly, if you doubt why he ranks first, please read his name backwards~
Do the above characters evoke your memories? If you are addicted to vampire-related themes but suffer from no new games, then congratulations, I recommend two works here.
